Pregnancy risks for a repaired ASD girl
I would want to know the risks in pregnancy for a 27yr old female who had undergone ASD device closure at her age of 23: # Maternal / fetal life risks? # Conflicts/ complications of drugs which are to be used during the pregnancy & delivery? # Will the Closure device withstand the heart fluctuations during this period? # Can a woman with repaired ASD be generally abel to tolerate Hemodynamic changes which are bound to happen during this phase of life? Thanks in advance 🙏

Very powerfully articulated set of questions! Generally after a successful ASD closure everything is fine. The risks are from nil to minimal. However if there was an underlying and persistent problem owing to the defect and its problems, a clinical review is in order. No major drugs are necessary if the procedure is fine and no residual issues. Indeed, many patients do not require any medicines after 3 months. The woman can tolerate pregnancy without any major issues unless it’s complicated by other associated problems. All in all, a thorough clinical review is in order to plan a safe pregnancy for such a person.
