PPI during full day fast
Should I take a single tablet of PPI on my fasting day to prevent excessive stomach acid? I fast once a week and can feel acid buildup in my stomach, without any  troublesome symptoms though I break the fast at night with fruits only and don't consume anything except green tea and water during the day

Intermittent fasting may actually help reduce acid reflux symptoms. Research shows that: Fasting can mildly reduce acid exposure in the stomach Patients report improved symptoms of heartburn and regurgitation during fasting periods When to Take PPI: Take it first thing in the morning, about 30-60 minutes before breaking your fast If prescribed twice daily, take the second dose 30 minutes before your evening meal What to Avoid: Don't take the PPI right before bedtime10 Don't take it with food as this reduces its effectiveness
Next Steps
The PPI will still be effective during your fasting period because: It reduces stomach acid production by about 65% when taken regularly The effect builds up over 3-5 days of consistent use It maintains effectiveness throughout the day, especially during daytime hours
