Post Pacemaker Surgery Recuperation
A sincere request to the medical fraternity to pls answer my query with accuracy as I'm worried about my mother. My mother underwent pacemaker surgery on 2nd July 2020. She has lost weight post that her cardiac issues have been resolved but the weight issue is still there. She also seems to be in the patient zone as she keeps saying I can't do this and I can't do that. She is focusing on her insecurities due to which she also has problems waking up from bed. She is medically fit and fine but she has gone from capable to incapable post the surgery. I hve started ensure powder to help her gain weight but the psychological part is still there. I feel she feels like a patient and somewhere failing to recuperate completely from it. What should be the steps I should take to bring my mother back and help her transition back to her normal old self. We are unfortunately not very well to do, so I can't afford best psychologist nor can we go out for walk during a pandemic. Requesting u to help me

Hi, Path to recovery is very difficult and what important is support from family constantly which will help her regain back her normal life routine. The support means here is the constant push you as family members have to give it to her by : 1. Take several breaks throughout the day to stretch and walk. 2. Do your regular household chores at a brisker pace. 3. Take the stairs instead of the escalator or elevator. 4. Take Time to Relax. From meditation to deep breathing exercises, there are a number of techniques to help relax your mind. 5. Eat more foods that have whole grains. 6. Add a variety of fruits and vegetables. 7. Cut down on sugar and salt (sodium). 8. Limit high-fat foods, like red meat, cheese and baked goods. 9. Lower the amount of bad fats in your diet, like saturated and trans fats. They are more likely to be solid at room temperature, like butter and shortening. 10. Swap bad fats for monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. These are more likely to be liquid at room temperature.
Next Steps
In case she still participate then I would suggest she needs counselling.

Hey Glad u reached out. So there are some steps U can try and take for rehabilitating your mom back to being more functional. One- there are Geriatric home care services available in most places. Explore the options and see if u can get some help from them. A care taker can be designated to assisting and facilitating your mom in recuperating back. These centres will also be able to give u a counselor who will be a geriatric expert. Pls explore. Second is that u are a lovely son and keep that love flowing for ur mom by communicating constantly and regularly with her. Sit with her... hold her hand and comfort her as much as u can.

Take her for a walk in the garden nearby if it’s possible or on a beach if it’s close to your place If not Then try calling home someone who is close to her as a friend who can talk positive and motivate her It will take some effort But she will overcome it with your positivity
