Persistent Afterimages
Can someone help me with mild Palinopsia-like symptoms? I am seeing persistent afterimages of the object for 1-2 seconds. I am becoming fed up. I have visited multiple ophthalmologists & Neuro Opthalmologists but no one is able to tell me why it is happening. Most of them say I am overthinking but I am seeing these afterimages from the past 4 months. For ex: if I see tv and look sideways then the glimpse of tv is there for 1-2 seconds. This is happening with a window grill, plaster of paris design also. I have a number of floaters in both eyes and also have a lazy eye in the left eye. I am becoming mad day by day. Is there anyone who can help me. I heard the term Palinopsia for this on the Internet. I have been taking L-gautholine 500 MG and Bilypsa for fatty liver for 6 months. Can it be the cause??

I can understand why this is causing concern, especially since the symptoms have persisted for 4 months and multiple eye examinations have not provided a clear explanation. The phenomenon you describe—seeing an image briefly for 1–2 seconds after looking away from an object—can resemble what is commonly referred to as afterimages or, in some cases, palinopsia-like visual symptoms. However, it is important to note that not every persistent afterimage necessarily represents true palinopsia. The fact that you notice these images after looking at a TV screen, window grills, patterned surfaces, or high-contrast objects is noteworthy. Since you have already been evaluated by ophthalmologists and neuro-ophthalmologists, serious eye diseases may have been excluded, which is reassuring. Floaters and a lazy eye generally do not directly explain persistent afterimages. Additionally, the medications you mentioned (L-Gautholine and Bilypsa) are not commonly known to cause palinopsia-like symptoms, although individual experiences can vary. Another important point is that once people become highly aware of visual phenomena, they may start noticing normal visual processing effects that previously went unnoticed. This does not mean your symptoms are imaginary—rather, it means that visual perception and attention can sometimes interact in complex ways. The persistence of symptoms for several months warrants continued observation and a thorough assessment of the overall clinical picture.
Next Steps
Keep a diary of your symptoms, noting when they are most noticeable, whether they are worse in bright light, after screen exposure, during stress, fatigue, or lack of sleep. Observe whether the afterimages occur with all objects or mainly with bright, high-contrast patterns. Also note whether you experience any associated symptoms such as headaches, migraines, flashes of light, visual field changes, dizziness, or neurological symptoms. Try not to repeatedly test your vision throughout the day by intentionally looking at objects and checking for afterimages, as this can increase visual awareness and make the symptoms seem more prominent. Since the issue has persisted for several months and is causing significant distress, a comprehensive review of your overall visual and neurological history may be beneficial. Health Tips
Ensure adequate sleep, maintain regular meal timings, stay well hydrated, and limit excessive screen exposure if you notice it worsens symptoms. Stress and anxiety can heighten awareness of visual sensations, so relaxation techniques such as meditation, breathing exercises, and regular physical activity may be helpful. Avoid spending excessive time searching for symptoms online, as this often increases anxiety and symptom monitoring. While persistent afterimages should be taken seriously, the fact that multiple specialists have evaluated you without identifying a major eye disorder is reassuring and suggests that ongoing observation and a broader assessment of contributing factors may be the most constructive next step. Thank you
