Hi I provide online consultation and therapy support. Sometimes IBS has deep rooted psychological trauma. By therapy we can identify why it's recurring and through that time we can continue medication for managing the symptoms from both aspects. Right now you need an integrated care from a psychiatrist and gastroenterologist. Please consult so that a proper plan can be made for you.

IBS with panic attacks sits exactly at the intersection of gut and mind — and you are right to be confused, because neither specialist alone can fully solve it. IBS is a gut-brain disorder, meaning anxiety and stress directly worsen gut symptoms, and gut discomfort in turn triggers more anxiety. Ideally, you need both managed together — a gastroenterologist for the gut symptoms and a psychiatrist or psychologist for the anxiety component, working in coordination.
Next Steps
Please consult me directly on Practo for a detailed evaluation — a general physician can often help coordinate this kind of dual management effectively.

your confusion about choosing between a gastroenterologist and a psychiatrist is incredibly common. Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is medically recognized as a disorder of the gut-brain interaction. The brain and the gastrointestinal tract share a massive, bi-directional neural highway; emotional or mental stress directly alters gut motility, while an inflamed or hypersensitive gut constantly fires distress signals back up to the brain, causing visceral hypersensitivity.
Next Steps
It is important to realize that you do not have to choose one over the other. A Gastroenterologist is essential for structurally mapping your gut, ruling out organic conditions (like Celiac disease or IBD), and prescribing physical motility regulators or laxatives/anti-diarrheals. A Psychiatrist or Neuro-Gastroenterologist focuses on the brain-gut connection, utilizing specific low-dose neuromodulators (like gut-directed cyclic medications) to directly numb overactive gut nerves and reduce stress-induced flares.
Health Tips
To clinically review your past gastroenterology prescription history, analyze your specific stress-to-gut flare patterns, and build a unified, multi-specialty management approach for your IBS, please book a full consultation session via my Practo profile."
