Painful defecation home remedies include increasing fiber intake through foods like whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, drinking plenty of water, exercising regularly, practicing relaxation techniques like deep breathing, avoiding straining during bowel movements, applying warm compresses or a heating pad to the abdomen, taking a sitz bath, using stool softeners or probiotics, and consuming foods high in magnesium like dark leafy greens, nuts, and seeds to help relax the muscles and promote regular bowel movements.
Recurring anal fissures can be due to persistent anal sphincter spasm that reduces blood flow, even when you’re using fiber, water, and stool softeners. Adding regular sitz baths and topical treatments (like CremaGel 2%) can help relax the muscle and improve healing. If the problem persists, consult with me or a colorectal specialist.
“As you have a fissure, you will experience pain whenever you pass hard stool until the fissure is completely healed. To speed up the healing process, continue with the prescribed treatment and take a sitz bath after defecation (using lukewarm water for 5-10 minutes, 2-3 times daily).”
