Based on the history and the small intraoral photos provided, it sounds most likely that your partially erupting wisdom tooth (third molar) is causing the cheek tissue to get trapped between the upper and lower teeth when you bite. This repeated trauma can lead to: Pain while chewing or closing the teeth together Ulceration of the cheek lining Bleeding when touched Swelling and irritation around the wisdom tooth Difficulty cleaning the area, which may lead to infection (pericoronitis
Next Steps
Clinical examination and an X-ray (preferably an OPG/panoramic radiograph) are needed to assess: Position of the wisdom tooth Whether it is impacted Whether it is causing cheek biting or damaging the adjacent tooth In the meantime: Rinse with warm salt water 3–4 times daily. Maintain excellent oral hygiene around the area. Avoid chewing on that side if possible. If prescribed by your dentist, an antiseptic mouthwash such as chlorhexidine may help.
Health Tips
Diabetes alone does not prevent wisdom tooth extraction or minor oral surgery. However, because you mention that your blood sugars are high: Your dentist/oral surgeon will want to know your recent blood glucose levels and ideally your HbA1c. Better glucose control reduces the risk of delayed healing and infection. If there is significant infection, pain, swelling, or recurrent cheek trauma, treatment should not necessarily be postponed indefinitely, but your diabetes management may need optimization around the time of surgery.
