As per your age we have few opinion for you.. you might be suffering from arthritis or trigger thumb(early) or tendionopathies.

There is a possibility of some arthritic changes in the joint which may be causing this noise..
Next Steps
I will suggest you to get one x ray of hand.. AP/oblique views.
Also, start hot fomentation, take analgesic tablet, you can also apply local analgesic ointment
