If she indeed has neck pain which is radiating down to her hand, she may have cervical spondylosis.
Next Steps
If she does have cervical spondylosis, please ask her to try the following... *Hot water bag (10 minutes twice a day) *After applying hot water bag, apply Nobel Gel *Tab Ace Proxyvon (half a tablet three times a day after eating something for 5 days) (if she is not allergic to the tablet and if she is not diabetic) *Neck extension exercise (stand up>breathe in and look up to the ceiling simultaneously>breathe out and look in front simultaneously (not down!)) (start with 5 counts of this exercise and every 2 days keep increasing the count until you reach 40 counts) *Do not do any other neck exercise! *Avoid using pillow while sleeping *Avoid keeping book/mobile phone near the body (keep it away from the body so that the neck does not bend while using it) Do get back after 1 week after trying all this so that we can decide the future course of treatment.

Pain in cervical region for a patient with age greater than 50 mostly  can be because of age related degeneration of bones or disc problem , cervical spondylitis is a vague term for many underlying conditions ,so that it will be easy for doctors to explain to the patient. lot of cervical problems need change in life style and medication + physiotherapy rather than only taking medications. if patient is taking only medications the relief will be temporary.  please kindly visit an orthopaedic specialist so that your problem will be addressed correctly.
Next Steps
cervical physiotherapy, lifestyle modifications
Health Tips
avoid lifting weight over head, avoid using mobile phone for long time, proper posture, ice pack applicaition over painful area
