Hello,Welcome to Practo, Pain while eating or drinking could be due to internal or external factors.Internal factors like gastritis..meaning swelling of the stomach or oesophageal lining due to hyperacidity..which is the most common cause. Or external factors like a injury to the chest or spasm of the intercoastal muscles (muscles between the ribs). Please consult a general physician and he will be able to guide you there on. Thanks and regards.

Hello, pain could be due to minor soft tissue injury or muscle spasm or fracture of rib . Sometimes pain in deeper structure is referred to chest. But pain on eating drinking related to gastrointestinal tract . It could be gastritis or gastroesophageal reflux disorder causing pain under rib . You consult general physician . If you have local tenderness , swelling over ribs then consult orthopedic doctor with x Ray.
