Degenerative changes once starts can not be reversed but the effect of it can be minimised by taking proper medications and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.Correct therapeutic exercises for strenghtning the neck muscles should be done daily as per the advice of a physiotherapist. Also maintaining proper posture is very important.

Medicine can help you to reduce pain. Neck exercises will help you to strengthen your muscles and ligaments and in turn will help you to reduce degenerative changes.

Medicines do not help with degeneration. However osteophytes cause restrictions in movement and physiotherapy can help with that.

For osteophytes we cant do anything . We can only avoid further formation & degeneration of cervical spine. Avoid taking too much calcium tablets or pain killers. Nothing can reduce osteophytes. If orthopaedic surgeon says to do surgery then take 2 -3 consultation. But physiotherapy will definitely helpfull if u follow 15-30days , wear a collar , apply hot water bag fermentation/ cold frequently every 2-3hrs once in a day. Apply deep heat cream . Once pain subsides then start neck strengthening exercises. Thank you.DR.ANDREW JAYA SINGH senior physiotherapist porur Chennai

There are many ways to treat osteophytes without surgical treatment depending upon the area affected. Changes in activity, physical therapy, hot/icepack, manual manipulations and more. if its in cervical region, with the help of some movements and ift it can be reduced in just a month.

You need to work on the musculature of the above mentioned structures so that they can easily Offload the structures that might be affected from the osteophytes. Osteophytes are a result of ageing and inappropriate loading. So, focus on strengthening these areas for getting relieved from the issues that you might be facing.
