Hi, It is safe to use the gel which was opened a year back provided it was closed properly, kept in a recommended storage temperature and it has not expired. If you have a doubt then please discard and buy a new one.

I hope after using you must have re-sealed it with cover properly. If yes, then you use it as it has not expired. If no, then discard it and buy a new one.
