Thank you for your question. Oral contraceptive pills are the most widely used contraceptive worldwide after condoms. They are over 99% effective at preventing an unwanted pregnancy when taken as advised. Most women under 35 years with no major illness or inherited disorders are eligible for the COC as the combined pull containing estrogen and progesterone is known. Those who are not are usually eligible for the progesterone only pill which contains only progesterone.. There are several pills of different combinations available and it would be near impossible to list them here. As with side effects and advantages too. .Please read the FPA leaflet about pills on www.fpa.org or you can read more on www.patient.co.uk. Your gynaecologist is the best person to guide you regarding which combination will suit you best and what side effects and benefits you can experience. please do not hesitate to clarify your doubts in person. Your wife will need a basic history and examination to ensure she is fit to take the coc. best wishes
