Open Infected Wound Care
I had an open wound that swelled up significantly the passed few days. Was putting over the counter steroidal anti-inflammatory ointment and was draining plenty of pus every time I changed the bandage. Earlier this morning, the pus covering the wound came off when I was washing with mild soap and water, exposing a deep crevice, dark craggy spots. The pus that came off was a signficant ball, about the size of half a pea. I continue to wash the wound with water and mild soap, pat it dry and then reapply a new bandage every few hours. The wound is excreting fluids but it is not bleeding out at all. Was wondering if I should go to a doctor, as this happened over the weekend and I was away from any immediate medical facility, or if I should continue cleaning, providing care for the wound and let it dry off. The swelling has decreased significantly, and I am no longer draining significant amounts of pus as I did a few days ago.
