I am having problem with my mind. I seem to find it difficult to start sustain thought consciously. I seem to have lost control over my mind and can only go with the flow. Cannot purposely think about something or find it too much to do. Doctors suspect it to be depression but I don't have relief despite taking medication.
Only time I felt relief was when I ate chinese street food for over a month, drank milkshake and did some activity. I felt as if a fog had been lifted I felt fresh energetic and wanted to to do productive things. But it only lasted for 1 hour. I seem to think this is related to stomach. Can virus or gut microbiota imbalance cause this? Why did I have 1 off remission of symptoms last year?

Dear Patient,
Thank you for sharing your concerns about your mental and physical health. The symptoms you describe, such as difficulty sustaining thoughts and feeling a lack of control over your mind, can indeed be associated with depression. However, the connection you’ve noticed with your diet and temporary relief is intriguing and warrants further investigation.
Here are a few points to consider:
1. **Gut-Brain Axis**: There is a well-documented connection between gut health and mental health, often referred to as the gut-brain axis. An imbalance in gut microbiota (dysbiosis) can influence mood and cognitive function.
2. **Nutritional Factors**: Certain foods and nutrients can impact brain function and mood. For example, the temporary relief you experienced might be related to specific nutrients or the act of eating itself, which can sometimes provide a short-term boost in mood and energy.
3. **Infections and Inflammation**: Viral infections or chronic inflammation in the gut could potentially affect mental health. Conditions like leaky gut syndrome or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) have been linked to mental health issues.
Given the complexity of your symptoms and the potential link to gut health, I recommend a comprehensive evaluation that includes both mental health and gastrointestinal assessments. This could involve:
- **Detailed Medical History**: To understand the timeline and triggers of your symptoms.
- **Laboratory Tests**: To check for infections, inflammation, and nutritional deficiencies.
- **Gut Microbiota Analysis**: To assess the balance of your gut bacteria.
I strongly recommend scheduling a consultation to develop a personalized treatment plan. Please feel free to reach out to me on WhatsApp at eight zero zero nine eight two one three three two to discuss your symptoms further or to book an appointment.
Take care,
