This is a frequent summer happening when kids nosepick to remove a drying crusted nose fluid, and bruise the tender blood vessels under the fine friable skin. Further, when bleeding stops, the clot traps more fluid and dirt which again dry and itch, pending another almost involuntary nose picking and..the cycle goes on. This is the best case scenario, when some vaseline applied locally prevents the drying itch. Professionals however dont just have to wish the best, but have to diagnose, inform and avert misfortune- if one is foreseeable. It would be good to know the child has a normal ability to form clots and arrest a bleed when and if ot starts. An anomaly or a hit on the nose sometimes brings tissues after healing in an abnormal situation / location where it can be hurt easily. Deeper tissues , if traumatised like the ethmoid bone, leads to more ferocious and life threatening, unstoppable bleeds. Some new cells in blood sometimes cause a relentless fatal bleed. As a mother, you cant be told the full details of possibilities that we should be testing for, till one of them is diagnosed. Go to an ENT specialist, get a bleeding profile, and CT scan of nose and sinuses done, along with a complete haemogram. Blood pressure centiles are also very much warranted. If all comes well, you may feel happy cursing our clan for greed and earning from too many tests etc. but thats how our science is.... vast, caring, and selective...to the level of appearing deceptive. Do not sit googling, and beliving your online luck ..go to a specialist and get peace after the investigations come normal.
