Newborn jaundice
Hi My baby was born in jan 2022. He is a full term baby. After 7 days of birth in follow up consultation he was diagnosed with mild jaundice bilubrin level 10. He is not facing any issue since then however his eyes seems to be yellow. Mostly the corners of the eyes. He is only on my breastmilk and no formula milk is being given to him. Just wanted to know why the eyes are still yellow and till when it will remain. Will it cause any harm to him ?

its a normal for baby to hv yellow colour of eyes for two to three weeks, sometimes even later. to answer ur 1st question the jaundice is bcz all baby donot hv the full fledged functioning of certain organs like liver so baby will appear yellow. the second question, it will disappear when liver has gained the best functioning might take two to three weeks or longer rarely. rest assured if its not a severe jaundice (since the dr has told its mild) the bad effects of jaundice might not occur
Next Steps
just visit a ped/neonatologist at the end of second week n again at 4 week/6week at the time of vaccination
Health Tips
breast feeding regularly n avoiding formula as ur doing will decrease yellow discoloration of eye to certain extent

Bilirubin value of 10 at day 7,you need not worry. Keep a watch on his jaundice. It should disappear if u feed him with breast milk adequately. If yellowishness is not decreasing or increasing, visit pediatrician. Repeat serum bilirubin will be required.
