Getting orthodontic treatment is does not have side effects like affecting brain and gum health. Gum health can be taken care off by keeping teeth clean and getting professional cleaning done while undergoing treatment. At 36 it can very much be done and its not more difficult. It is definitely faster if done at a younger age but we have treated patients post 35 and seen beautiful results. So go ahead and get orthodontic treatment done. The doctor will also need to examine you clinically and only x ray cannot be used for assessment.

From the available Xray, your gum condition looks ok.  And at your age orthodontic correction is possible but may take bit more time comparatively for it to complete as your bone gets harder that age before 18 years. You will have to take extra care of your teeth and gum while the treatment period.
