Need Help - Trouble Sleeping
Hi, I'm a 38 YO male, with a history of borderline high cholesterol & recent bloodwork (over past 6 months) shows: Elevated Hs Crp Borderline Haemoglobin Elevated Homocysteine Iron Deficiency Reduced Blood Ketones Borderline Blood Sugar Furthermore, was diagnosed with Dengue recently & recovering now. Have been consistently facing sleep issues for quite sometime (more prominent in the past week). Have tried morning meditation, finishing dinner early, walking after meals & magnesium supplement - yet waking up in the middle of the night every night. Need guidance on which specialist to consult, since Practo lists sleep disorders treatment through GPs / Neuros / Somnologists / Endocrinologists.

Dr Shamoon here, Consultant Physician. Your mid-night awakenings fit best with post-dengue recovery plus iron deficiency and borderline sugar—not a primary sleep disorder. Raised hsCRP and homocysteine are usually secondary to these, not separate diseases. You do not need a somnologist first; an internal medicine review is the right starting point.
Next Steps
Please repeat CBC, ferritin/iron profile, fasting glucose or HbA1c, B12/folate and liver tests with a physician; do not start sleeping tablets yourself. If snoring or daytime sleepiness is present, sleep evaluation can follow. Book a Practo consult with me or visit Synergy Multispeciality Hospital, Miraj for review.

With this many findings together, you'll do best starting with a general physician or internal medicine specialist rather than a sleep specialist. They can look at your iron deficiency, blood sugar, cholesterol and the other markers you listed as one picture. Recovering from dengue can also disturb your sleep for a few weeks on its own.
Next Steps
Low iron is linked with restless legs, an urge to move your legs at night that breaks sleep. Mention it to your doctor if you notice this. If you snore, wake up gasping, or feel sleepy through the day, ask your physician about a sleep study.
