My mother 's eGFR is decreasing?
My mother (59 years old) did a KFT, EGFR is 55 serum creatinine is 1.10, urea serum 15, Albumin Creatinine ratio/ urin 2.58. she has BP and Cholesterol and diabetes.her GFR was 70 six months back.she took some painkillers for sciatica. Is this CKD?please advise

Hi She might have early diabetic kidney disease. eGFR declines by 1ml/min per year in a normal individual too. So as of now avoid all pain killers. Check her urine for protein leak. keep blood sugars and blood pressure under control. Recheck creatinine after a month.

Egfr is calculated with creatinine and age. Her creatinine may hav slightly increased right down due to medications/infections/diabetes. Hence, egfr has decreased. Painkillers may hav contributed. To classify as ckd, we need to check creatinine again after few weeks. Any increase in creatinine which persists for more than 3 months is called ckd.
