In the past few years I've stopped any sort of workout. Before that I played football professionally but never got seriously injured. I've started facing this problem from a long time where my legs fell asleep if I cross my legs or put pressure on them whilst crossing them for sometime. I'm curious to know what could be the reason apart from the basic blood circulation issue. My friends and other colleagues also do the same but don't face the same problems. Kindly help.

When you cross your legs, the nerve in your leg is getting stretched and thus gives you the feeling of numbness. Assess the flexibility of your hip muscles. Due to your football playing your hip muscles may have become relatively stiffer thus not giving the required flexibility to sit cross-legged.
