My friend is going through mental illness. Since 1 month he doesnt want to talk to anybody properly, he dosnt wants to listen to anybody does everything of his own mind. Now he is going on counselling ...i wanted to know how long does the counselling goes. And can he be cured with the counselling sessions itself.

Needs proper evaluation.
There must be some stressor why your friend is behaving like this. Needs some relaxation techniques, psychotherapy and counselling. Moreover in such cases proper ventilation and expression of whatever your friend is undergoing has to be done. Therapy takes time...depends on individual to individual from 3-6 months. Moreover a will to be better is most important from side of the patient

It depends on how severe the symptoms are. If after a few sessions you do not see any changes then consult a Psychiatrist, as mental illness needs a detailed evaluation.
It's variable depends on what he is suffering from and what type of counselling he is taking. There are different types of counselling specific of specific mental illness . It can go upto 3 months to 6 months.
