Many mothers silently suffer from postpartum depression, and it can often be intensified by hormonal shifts, sleep deprivation, breastfeeding exhaustion, and the overwhelming emotional load that comes with caring for a baby. Mood swings, fatigue from the smallest task, and suicidal thoughts are not signs of weakness or failure—they’re signs your mind and body are pleading for care and support. You are not alone in this, and this can be treated. This is not your fault. Please, seek immediate professional help. You can start by talking to a psychiatrist who understands perinatal mental health—there are medications that are safe during breastfeeding, and therapy tailored to postpartum mothers can bring relief. You don’t need to hold this pain alone. Reach out to a close family member or friend, and let them know how bad it’s been. Make a safety plan. Hi, I appreciate that you reached out with your concern. I understand you’re feeling this way. You are suffering from postpartum depression. Pregnancy changes can take a huge toll on mental health, and with a 6-month-old baby and breastfeeding, your body and mind are under a lot of stress. Feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, and experiencing mood swings can be incredibly tough, and I want you to know that you are not alone in this. It’s important to take care of yourself too. Try to get as much rest as possible, accept help from family or friends, and focus on small, manageable tasks rather than everything at once. Eating well and staying hydrated can also help with energy levels. Seek therapy and emotional support, it can make a big difference in handling mood swings and suicidal thoughts. If suicidal thoughts feel uncontrollable, please seek immediate help—reach out to a trusted family member, a doctor, or a mental health professional. Meanwhile, practice deep breathing, Progressive muscle relaxation, engage in movements like going for nature walks.
