Hello, I understand your concern for your father. At his age, with a history of asthma, breathing issues, cough with phlegm, and low hemoglobin, weakness and breathlessness can have more than one contributing factor: Possible reasons • Anemia: Even after transfusion, hemoglobin is still on the lower side, which can cause fatigue and weakness. • Asthma/airway disease: Cough with phlegm and breathing difficulty may indicate poorly controlled asthma or another lung condition. • Age-related changes & nutrition: These can further worsen energy levels and recovery. What can help • Ensure he continues his prescribed asthma medications/inhalers regularly. • Adequate hydration may ease phlegm clearance. • A nutritious, protein-rich diet will support strength and blood levels. • Regular follow-up with his treating doctor is important to monitor hemoglobin, iron levels, and overall health. Wishing your father better health and recovery. — Dr. Neelesh Guttikonda MD Pulmonary Medicine | Fellowship in Interventional Pulmonology
Next Steps
Next steps Since he has both anemia and respiratory illness, a thorough evaluation by a pulmonologist and physician is advisable. They may suggest: •Further blood work (iron, B12, kidney function, etc.) •Chest X-ray/lung function test to assess breathing status •Adjustment of inhalers or additional treatment if needed
Health Tips
Word of reassurance: With the right balance of asthma control, nutritional support, and correction of anemia, his breathing and energy can improve. A detailed review by his doctors will help create the safest and most effective plan.
