I was eating a tortilla chip when I felt a shard get stuck in my windpipe. I coughed some but it stayed stuck. I swallowed and it went down. Not sure if it went down my esophagus or windpipe, but I can’t feel anything still in my windpipe or lungs, and I can breathe and swallow fine. But now, an hour later, I can’t talk. At all. It’s unbearably painful to talk so I am staying silent. Can a scratch like this permanently damage or alter my voice (as I heard can happen w vocal cord damage)?

Chips may have injured you Larynx which is a area where vocal cords as well as opening of food pipe is situated. Ulcerations in that area can be very painful and cause change in voice. Usually healing takes place very fast. You may need to give voice rest and steam inhalation for few days. Keep drinking sips of water
