My father is a diabetic patient. He feels severe pain both of his knees since last six months. He couldn't sit properly or he couldn't stand properly after he sits for several minutes. What could be the reason.What are the tests has to been done?

This can be due to osteoarthritis of knees. Diabetics patients are prone to have osteoarthritis. Get an x-ray done, it may show reduced joint space and spur formation.
Next Steps
Go to a physiotherapist.. Ultrasonic therapy +IFT +Heating therapy +some strengthening exercises will be helpful for sure.
Health Tips
At home.. Rest +hot water fomentation +pain killer gel +no long standing /walking /stair climbing +no cold exposure +use knee caps+do cycling.

Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain.
Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day.
Hams Stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. repeat 10 times, twice a day.
Sports Taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area
Contrast Fomentation (Hot and Cold).
Dear sir. Your father needs to be seen by a orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in joint t replacement surgeries. We can expect him to get an x ray and make a final diagnosis. I the meantime it would be better not to sit cross legged and not to squat. Ask him to do quadriceps strengthening exercises.
First of all, no one should sit or stand at one place for more than 20-30 mins.
That will solve most of his problem, but any arthritic changes or muscle weaknesses and tightness if any due to the lifestyle and aging process need to be addressed to the Physiotherapist
