Is my daughter having typhoid
Hello doctor , since my daughter was falling ill dmfrequently we did her blood tests all came normal and widal test has 1:80 in all its parameter. Kindly confirm if she has typhoid or not.

Hi. Widal is NOT a good test for typhoid. It is almost redundant now and also most labs do slide test which is highly inaccurate. Also 1:80 is very low. Best is to do blood culture if she has  fever now.  Also we need to look into other symptoms she has. Typhoid does not cause repeated fevers. Most of the repeated fevers are viral in origin.

For typhoid test to get positive results The test should be ideally done after 5 days of frver Increasing dilution of test means 1:320 is strongly positive 1:80 we wont take as positive some times equivocal if done earlier in fever Better givre blood culture if fever is persistent and continue oral antibiotics If your child is more sick and dehydrated with poor oral intake iv fluids and iv antibiotics may help
