Is Metformin safe during pregnancy?
My wife, Age: 35, is now running in 14 weeks of pregnancy, doctor has prescribed OGTT test (Oral Glucose Tolerance Test) and as per the outcome it was found as Gestational Diabetics and doctor has recommend to take METFORMIN tablet so my queries are as it crosses the placenta hence whether it can have any effect on the new born Baby? If so then what are risk involved and how to treat it?

Metformin is not yet approved to be used during pregnancy. She should preferably be on insulin.
