Is brisk walking safe for OA patients?
My mother, 45 years old (65kg) has Osteoarthritis in probably stage 2 or stage 3. She also has diabetes. Walking is ideally recommend to diabetes patients. So can my mother go on a 20-30 mins of brisk walking given the fact that she has OA?

Hi!!! As your mother is diagnosed to have Osteoarthritis knees and given the fact that she is diabetic, it’s better that she walks at normal pace for longer time than brisk walk for shorter time. In addition to it, a well maintained diet plan and exercises for the thighs and legs will protect her knee joints.

She should continue her walking in a level ground with good quality shoes keeping in mind social distancing.

Yes ,there is no harm in walking, but sitting for long time is not good both for back and knee Regards Dr Amit Jain
