Checked for Insulin resistance , homa ir index came 3.25 and fasting insulin 28.9. Other hbA1c and fasting glucose tests came normal. Is medication required for this ? Have pcod and also overweight. Kindly provide some dietary tips for this.
Your HOMA-IR of 3.25 and fasting insulin around 29 do point to insulin resistance, which is common with PCOD even when HbA1c and fasting glucose look normal. Medication such as metformin is sometimes used here, but whether you need it depends on your full picture, including weight and cycle pattern.
Next Steps
Cut down refined carbs and sugary drinks, add protein and fibre to each meal, and aim for 30 to 40 minutes of daily activity. Even a 5 to 10 percent weight loss usually improves insulin sensitivity meaningfully in PCOD.
Health Tips
Please see your gynaecologist or endocrinologist to decide on medication, since that call depends on more than just this one value.
