I want to consult a psychologist online.
My mother has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder in March 2021. Since then we were following a psychiatrist. She has been through multiple manic episode since then. The main problem she is facing is that the medicines prescribed by the dr. Makes her body very stiff, she sleeps all day and night, she blabber, she has headache and even her hands shiver and her feet are  swelling. I know there are side effects of these tablets. But what she is experiencing is hindering her day to day activities. That's the only reason she never agrees to go to the dr. In manic episodes. We compelled her to see a Dr. I just want to know are these side effects normal?? everyone going through bipolar experiences it or do we need to change the dr.? Please help me out with this. Thanks

It's not normal to have side effects If your mother face side effects then need to change medicine according to her symptoms and side effects. Not everyone experiencing side effects. Need to see her and then actually tell what exactly done in her case.
Next Steps
consult a psychiatrist rather then psychologist in this particular case
Health Tips
once she is stable then need to contact psychologist for counseling

Madam, During Manic episode the medication needs to be increased and few patients do face side effects (sadly). however during maintainence phase medicine is reduced and patient generally lives a near normal life. do consult your nearest psychiatrist for the same.

Bipolar disorder is a serious mental illness that warrants psychiatric attention. Please consult with a psychiatrist. The side effects need to be treated and alternative management needs to be initiated for symptom control
