Hypothyroidism can be due to many causes and the duration of disease and supplementation depends on the cause. Autoimmune thyroiditis is one of the most common causes of it in young females in which patients have to take hormone supplements lifelong. The doses need to ne titrated to keep your thyroid hormone levels in normal range. We usually test T3,T4 and TSH every 2-3 months initially. Also you need to understand that hypothyroid patients need extra efforts for weight loss even if they have hormones in normal range. So u need to be very stringent with ur diet and exercise.
