Hi,
I understand what you describe, racing thoughts, hypervigilance, sleeplessness, body tension are common with anxiety and trauma, sometimes overlapping with depression. It’s not “something wrong with you,” it’s your nervous system stuck in alarm mode.. stay consistent with treatment, add therapy alongside medication, and practice calming routines before sleep. You’re not alone your mind and body can heal with time, care, and support.
Next Steps
Continue meds as prescribed, don’t stop suddenly.
Start therapy—trauma-focused or CBT.
Practice daily grounding (breath, body scan).
Build gentle sleep routine.
Share feelings with trusted support.
Small steps, steady healing.
Health Tips
Keep a calm bedtime ritual.
Limit news, screens at night.
Journal thoughts before sleep.
Gentle movement or walk daily.
Eat balanced, hydrate well.
Remind yourself: this wave will pass.

First of all, do not get worried,
*Symptoms that you have mentioned are of anxiety that is also part of Depression or Adjustment or other illness
Anxiety is a broad term , has many manifestations such as *increased heart rate, palpitation, sweating, dryness of mouth, tingling sensation, GIT upset as constipation or diarrhoea etc
*Anxiety can occur due to various causes as low or distressed mood as in depression or Adjustment Disorder, or in OCD, Phobia, particular Anxiety Disorder too
*Some physical conditions such as hypothyroidism, anaemia, fever also cause anxiety
*In your case, due to the stress of traumatic experience, these symptoms are occurring , you are continuing correct medications, response will be felt in 1-2 week minimum, trust your doctor, maintain follow up visits, discuss queries with doctor too
*You are not alone, it's a treatable with proper advice in the form of medications plus relaxation exercises
Hi
It doesn’t sound like just depression experience has strong elements of anxiety, hyperarousal, and health-related vigilance as well. Sometimes people call this a mixed anxiety-depression state or even trauma-related anxiety. What matters most is that your symptoms are real, treatable, and not uncommon in people whose nervous system has gone through stress or shock. Please continue with your psychiatrist’s treatment plan, and combine it with calming strategies (relaxation breathing, grounding, CBT for intrusive thoughts).
