Hi
I understand how deeply this fear is affecting you. When health anxiety takes over, even a normal test result feels doubtful, and your mind keeps looking for “what if” scenarios. First, let me reassure you medically — a negative Pap smear is a very reliable indicator that there are no active cervical lesions or abnormal cells right now. HPV is indeed common, but not every infection progresses to cancer. In fact, most HPV infections clear on their own, especially in younger women, and regular screenings like you’ve done are the key to staying safe.
What you’re experiencing now is not a physical illness but a health anxiety loop (illness anxiety disorder). The constant worry, checking, over-Googling, and doubts—even after normal reports—are classic signs. Your mind has developed a hyper-focus on “something must be wrong” because of fear, not because of evidence.
CBT therapy can help you break this cycle of obsessive health-related thoughts, body monitoring, and fear of the future. Techniques like cognitive restructuring, exposure to uncertainty, and mindfulness will help you regain control over these intrusive fears.

Hi,
I understand your anxiety and concerns about HPV and cervical health. It's important to remember that your recent Pap smear was negative, which is a good sign. While HPV can sometimes remain dormant, regular screenings like Pap smears and HPV tests help detect any issues early. If youâre worried about your results or have doubts, consider consulting a gynecologist for a detailed review or additional testing. Managing stress through relaxation techniques, staying positive, and focusing on your health can also help. Remember, early detection is key, and your healthcare provider can guide you best for ongoing monitoring and peace of mind.
Hi... I believe you are suffering from hypochondria/ severe heath anxiety. You have mentioned your fears of getting infected 9 years back by an unprotected Intercourse and the infection remaining dormant for so many years and causing severe fatal illness, based on reading articles online. The symptoms you have mentioned- "always feel anxiety, difficulty to concentrate, fast heartbeat, low BP, feeling life is over, fear of cervical cancer, etc". All suggest underlying mental health condition rather than a physical health condition. Still to be double sure, I would suggest you to consult a OB/GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) Doctor to clarify your doubts. The report you have shared is of February 2025 but you have not mentioned what triggered your anxiety now. If just reading articles online has triggered this anxiety response than you need to focus more on your mental health than physical health.
Next Steps
Consult a OB/GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) Doctor to clarify any doubts.
Consult a Psychologist.
CBT along with Lifestyle Guidance and Interpersonal Counselling is required.
You're not alone in feeling anxious after reading about HPV and its possible long-term effects. It's important to know that the vast majority of HPV infections clear on their ownâespecially if you've been healthy and not sexually active for years. A negative Pap smear result is a strong sign that your cervix is healthy and that there are no signs of precancerous changes at this time.
Next Steps
If you're still concerned, you can speak to a gynecologist about doing an HPV DNA test (especially if it wasn't included with your Pap test). This test is even more specific in detecting high-risk HPV types. Since your anxiety is affecting your daily functioning, it's also important to address the mental health aspect. A psychologist or therapist can help you work through these thoughts and the fear cycle. Practice grounding techniques (breathing exercises, journaling, talking to a professional) to reduce your heart rate and improve focus.
Health Tips
Try not to self-diagnose through Googleâmedical information without context often causes unnecessary panic. A negative Pap smear means your body has done well protecting itself. Trust your report and your body's immunity. Prioritize mental wellness. Anxiety can trigger physical symptoms like fast heart rate and low BP, which may worsen your fear. Focus on your future motherhood with hopeâmany women go on to have healthy pregnancies after a Pap smear, even with past HPV history.
