Hi Doctor,
My sister in law was diagnosed with ovarian agenesis. Both her ovaries are absent and she have rudimentary uterus.
She has depression and anxiety since last 4 Years. She is under medications prescribed by her psychologist.
I wanted to understand if the ovarian agenesis is the cause of the depression and anxiety issues.
Please let us know if hormonal therapy will be helpful for her.
Thank you!

Hormonal therapy is must for overall wellbeing and to maintain secondary sexual characteristics.. It may not cure her depression. She needs to follow up with psychiatrist.

It is very difficult to say that Ovarian agenesis is the only sole cause of her depression and anxiety, Ovaries produce estrogen and progesterone, which play a key role in mood regulatio. Their absence can lead to low estrogen levels, which are sometimes associated with increased risk of mood disorders, including depression and anxiety.
