HIV Testing
I have had unprotected vaginal sex with a woman of unknown HIV status for 3 - 5 seconds only. It happened 31 days ago. Would now be a good time to go for a 4th gen assay test?

A 4th generation HIV test, also known as an antigen/antibody test, can typically detect HIV 45 days or more after exposure. However, the window period, or the time between exposure and when a test can detect the virus, varies by person and test type. For example, a 4th generation test can detect HIV in 99% of people tested within 13–42 days of exposure. If you want to get tested sooner, you can consider an HIV-1 RNA PCR test, which can detect HIV as early as 10 days after exposure. For example, 4th generation tests will pick up 99% of infections at six week. Testing earlier, for example after four week, only detects 95% of infections. Testing earlier needs a confirmatory test three months after the risk.
Next Steps
You can wait for 11 to 14 days and get your results done on 15th day & confirm yourself.
Health Tips
Don’t panic too much. Post exposure prophylactic medications need to be taken within 72 hours of exposure.. Everything can be treated and put under control.

Yes. But final confirmation will be after 90 days. Kindly consult, as HIV is not the only STD that can be transmitted. Other tests will also be required.
