Hepatitis B
My mom is a dialysis patient while testing std for her dialysis (first time) we found hepatitis B virus and the doctor said it could be the reason for the previous blood transfusion. Her test report All hepatitis b panels are negative Except total hepatitis core antigen And Anti-Hbe is negative which is s/co value of more than 1... Please advise what it should be... Even dna PCR not deducted.... Doctor didn't say anything said just need to wait and see and no medication required. For me hepatitis b panel test all are negative except Anti-HBe only positive with is s/co value of less than 1(0.72) i enquired about that to doctor all are negative except anti Hbe, y. she replied you not exposed to the virus that's y... But please clarify doctors of practo then y my anti Hbe alone positive... Does for uninfected person anti Hbe positive??? Positive s/co less than 1??? And Does my mom is safe??? She is 62 year old...

It seems that your mom has been exposed to the Hepatitis B virus at some point, possibly during the blood transfusion, as the Hepatitis B core antigen (anti-HBc) is positive. The Anti-HBe being negative suggests she is not in the infectious phase and may have resolved the infection or be in a latent phase. Regarding the PCR test: Since the PCR for Hepatitis B DNA is not detected, it indicates there is no active viral replication. This is a good sign, meaning that she is not actively contagious at this moment. For your test: Anti-HBe positive with s/co value less than 1 typically means that you may have had previous exposure to Hepatitis B, but the low s/co value suggests you have not been infected recently and likely have protective immunity. It’s normal to see this after vaccination or past exposure without ongoing infection. For your mom: Since she is not PCR positive, and Anti-HBe negative, there is no immediate need for medication unless viral replication occurs. She should continue regular monitoring with her doctor, and additional tests like liver function tests or ultrasound can help assess liver health. Conclusion: Your mom is not currently infectious, and you seem to have protective immunity. Keep monitoring as advised by the doctor. Anti hbe positive means low viral load of the hepatitis antigen. This should not have any symptoms, but regular monitoring is required and you need to mention it everywhere considering she is getting a dialysis.
Next Steps
Continue primary treatment i.e. dialysis
Health Tips
Regular liver function test monitoring
