Hearing issue
My nephew is currently 1 year and 10 months old. Till this age he is unable to speak anything. He makes some random sounds but not any lingual words. A doctor has diagnosed him with hearing issue by birth. He told that he has 20-40 % hearing ability but not performed much tests. Can anyone guide me the prpoper procedure involved in diagnosis of hearing conditions? What tests are necessary for this and what are the measures currently available if he is diagnosed with full or partial deafness. General health wise he is a healthy looking child with no major history of any other illness. Apart from this what we can do from our side to help him grow well as a normal child. Any help or suggestions will be gr

Please consult some good pediatric audiologist in your area. There are few tests that can be done such as BOA/VRA, BERA and OAE to assess the hearing loss. If there is any hearing loss, please start using hearing aids as soon as possible with the consultation of your audiologist. And also start with speech therapy also for his speech and language development. Each passing day is important for your child, please take proper steps as soon as possible.

Hi...based on your history...I would suggest two tests to be done ASAP 1)BERA 2)OAE to know the level of the defect causing hearing loss...and degree of hearing loss... If he is diagnosed with moderately severe or profound sn deafness....first thing to be done is fitting of binaural hearing aid and speech therapy...and further investigations which include MRI,CT of temporal bone, psychiatric evaluation, and pediatric evaluation(to rule out other congenital abnormalities)...are to be done to know if the patients fits the criteria for COCHLEAR IMPLANTATION!!
