Hi. Are you also making good life style changes along with the medicine like low fat diet and exercise? Also how much is the LDL? What other background health issues do you have? Th decision to start medication for cholesterol issues depends on your age, other health issues, genetics(family history of heart disease) and so on, which gives an idea about the risk you are at for future cardiac events.

Health Tips
If your LDL goes up when you stop medication and the other life style changes are the same, probably you need to be on medication long term

You can try lifestyle changes which includes 1. Walk daily for minimum 30 mins 2. Stop fried foods 3. Avoid alcohol and tobacco intake If LDL is still not controlled, you will need lifelong drug therapy then.
