its likely that you saw tonsils inside his mouth.
palatine tonsils are paired organs inside our throat which can vary in size. they are usually big in children and slowly reduce in size once we grow up.
if there is no associated pain then you need not worry about it. if its causing pain consult nearby ENT specialist
