Dear human, thank you for sharing and reaching out. I appreciate your effort to help this individual. A family member consulting a psychologist would help to an extent, they can describe the symptoms, what is going with this individual and few other aspects like how it started, when it started, what could be the possible reasons, etc. But the individual themselves have to involve in therapy to discuss their concerns, to explore what is really bothering them which only they would be aware of and to figure out a healthy and suitable way for themselves. A family member can consult a psychologist to know more about the concern, to be aware and also to know how to support the individual. Meanwhile somethings you can do are: 1. Provide a safe space for them to talk about their concerns - listen to them actively, try validating their feelings by supporting them. 2. You can use sentences like, "I understand and I'm here for you", "I hear you", "It sounds like you're going through a tough time, how can I be of help?", etc. 3. Try not to judge them for what they are and understand that they have gone through something to be in this place. 4. Try not to trivialize their concerns by denying them or ignoring them. Avoid using phrases like, "This js nothing, you can come out of it", "Try to think positive", etc. 5. While doing all these, you would get a space to tell them about therapy and how it can help them. While telling this, try to come across as non-threatening and tell them that therapy is normal and everybody seeks it. Assure them that it's okay to seek help. Hope this helps :) Take care!

Yes, online consultation with a family member can help to certain extent. The mental health professional can psychoeducate the family and they can gain more insight into how to handle the patient. However, if the patient can get motivated for the treatment then nothing like it.
Next Steps
Please book a session either with a Clinical Psychologist or a Psychiatrist.

Hello, Online consultation with a family member would help to a certain point but the client needs to be engaged in the therapy for the growth and empowerment of the client. Try to talk to him/ her and check what makes him/her hesitant to visit a professional, check whether the client is having insight to his/her problems.

Hi Thanks for asking great question...many families are facing such issue If the family members observe a significant negative or abnormal changes in person's level of thinking n responding to day to day life.... U can do 1) talk to that person regarding his behaviour 2) if not ready to accept n go to doctor ... U as family contact Psychologist/ psychiatrist 3) Discuss symptoms n understand what happened- make yourself aware what is the cause of abnormal behaviour 4) learn from Psychologist how to talk so he will be ready to meet doctor, can learn the tools n techniques to comfort that person 5) it's important to keep metal balance of family members (mental comfort) -they also need ventilation as well as coping skills from Psychologist 6) Due to Covid u can take online session as they r equally good 7) sit with that person n make a list of cost and benefits of that person's behaviour he will understand how damaging his behaviour n it needs correction...give time to improve...still unable now ask if he wants to consult Psychologist U can take online session with experienced Psychologist
