Hi All, I am 31 years old IT professional, I have done Sonography/USG for pelvis and abdomen and in that tests it's mentioned that I have Grade 2 Fatty Liver. I wanna know the reason behind it... as I was working in core nights shifts (10pm to 7 am IST) for 2 years in 2022 / 2023 , i used to drink alot of Cold drinks to get rid of acidity caused by night shifts and indigestion. I am not doing any exercises in gym recently. But I do walking for 20 30 mins daily and do some pushups and planks but still I am facing fatty liver problem in such young age? I would like to know the ayurvedic or home treatment and genuine suggestions on how to reverse fatty liver grade 2 by using home remedies or diet. Next year my wedding is planned and I'm worried if it's a serious concern or it's manageable? Any Good doctor can please advise me I'm worried 😟

A Grade 2 fatty liver detected on ultrasound in a 31-year-old is a common and, in most cases, reversible condition. It indicates that excess fat has accumulated in the liver, but ultrasound cannot determine whether there is inflammation (MASH) or permanent scarring (fibrosis). Therefore, while the finding should be taken seriously, it is not a cause for panic, especially when identified early. Current guidelines from Asia Pacific Region, Europe & America early-stage fatty liver can often be reversed with appropriate lifestyle modification. Based on your history, the most likely explanation is the combined effect of several lifestyle factors. Working night shifts (10 PM–7 AM) for two years can disrupt the body’s internal biological clock (circadian rhythm), increasing insulin resistance and promoting fat accumulation in the liver. In addition, consuming large amounts of sugary soft drinks to relieve acidity and stay awake likely contributed significantly, as these beverages are rich in fructose, which is converted into fat within the liver. Reduced structured physical activity and possible weight gain or increased abdominal fat further increase the risk. Importantly, many South Indian develop fatty liver even without severe obesity due to genetic and metabolic susceptibility.
Next Steps
The next step is to identify the underlying cause and assess disease severity. In your case, the Night Shifts cause altered circadian rhythm which results insulin resistance, altered glucose metabolism and increased liver fat accumulation.

Grade 2 fatty liver at your age is usually related to metabolic factors such as excess sugar intake, irregular eating habits, and reduced physical activity. It is often reversible with sustained lifestyle changes. Avoid sugary drinks and processed foods, exercise regularly (including strength training), and aim for gradual weight reduction if overweight. I also recommend LFTs, HbA1c, lipid profile, and a FibroScan to assess liver health. There is no proven home or Ayurvedic remedy that reverses fatty liver better than diet and exercise. With appropriate lifestyle modification, the outlook is excellent.
