I am a 21 year old guy. 7 months ago, I got a severe burnout. Since then, I have been on psychiatrist treatment. Initially, I got diagnosis as a depression and later a doctor labelled me having soft bipolar. However, I am not depressed and neither stressed nor anxious. I have suffered from depression in the past but not now. My primary symptoms are lacking physical energy, and reduction of cognitive ability. My physical energy has increased for over 40-45% in the last 7 months. I don't know is it due to rest or medicine. However, my cognitive ability still hasn't returned at its full strength. I am on fluoxitine and Bupropion. I can't read heavy texts and feel emotionally dull. I am psychologically fine (no negative thinking) but something is wrong with my nervous system. I still haven't found any good psychiatrist till now who can understand my problem and provide suitable treatment. Does anybody has expertise in such cases?

, how are you? Thanks for reaching out. A few questions: before the burnout, were you working or studying excessively for a long period? Have you had any blood tests done recently (B12, Vitamin D, thyroid, iron)? And do you feel your thinking is slow all day, or only when doing mentally demanding tasks?
From what you’ve described, it sounds like your mood symptoms have improved, but you’re still struggling with fatigue, mental sluggishness, and emotional blunting. Sometimes these symptoms can persist after burnout or depression, and they can also be influenced by medication side effects, sleep quality, nutritional deficiencies, or ongoing nervous system recovery. Since you’ve already noticed a 40–45% improvement, that suggests recovery is happening, just more slowly than you’d like. Rather than focusing on a diagnosis label, it may help to track cognitive stamina gradually—reading for short periods, increasing mental activity in small steps, and discussing medication effects with a psychiatrist who is willing to reassess rather than assume the symptoms are purely psychiatric. Your symptoms may not necessarily indicate ongoing depression or bipolar disorder. Persistent cognitive slowing, mental fatigue, emotional blunting, and low energy after severe burnout can occur due to prolonged stress, residual depressive symptoms, medication effects (including fluoxetine), sleep issues, or medical causes such as B12, vitamin D, thyroid, or iron deficiency. A detailed reassessment, including blood tests, sleep evaluation, and review of the bipolar diagnosis and current medications, would be advisable. Recovery of cognitive function often takes longer than mood recovery and may continue gradually over many months.
