Normally a severe headache will only result if there is an infection in the area. Food impaction will cause a more dull kind of pain. Please get an X-ray repeated to check the tooth and rule out involvement of any other teeth.
Next Steps
Consult a dentist

Headache can also result from sinus or other ENT issues
