Geographical tongue in pregnancy
I am 27 weeks pregnant. I have had marks in my tongue since 10 weeks.. it doesn't hurt or anything.. but it keeps on changing its shape and size.. when I looked online I got to know that it is called geographical tongue. Sometimes it is less visible and then sometimes there are huge marks.. Why does this happen? How to cure it?

Hi, I am Dr. ATUL KUMAR NIMAWAT MS ENT Geographic Tongue (Benign Migratory Glossitis). It is a harmless inflammatory condition of the tongue where red, map-like patches with slightly raised borders appear. The exact cause is not known. It is considered a benign variant of the tongue’s surface pattern. Possible associations: hormonal changes (common in pregnancy), nutritional deficiencies (iron, vitamin B12, folic acid), allergies, stress, and genetic predisposition. It is not infectious, not precancerous, and usually does not cause long-term problems.
Next Steps
Usually no treatment is required, as it is a self-limiting condition.
Health Tips
Maintain good oral hygiene.
