Genital herpes recurrence outbreak
Namaste I'm facing recurrent herpes outbreak every month one after other. How long should I go for suppressive therapy? Which is best whether Acyclovir or Valacyclovir? How many doses per day? Kindly help 🙏

Hello , Thanks for your trust and faith. Recurrent herpes is really tough and impacts lifestyle adversely. There is suppressive therapy that you are already on and I am sure you are under the care of a very good venerolpgist. However, these drugs neither eradicate latent virus nor affect the risk, frequency, or severity of recurrences after the drug is discontinued. That’s why we call it suppressive therapy . To answer Your second question Valacyclovir has better oral bioavailability so you may ask your Dr if they want to switch . You may also ask about Famciclovir. Recurrent bouts are mostly seen in HSV -2 and also in ano genital interactions . I am sure you know which one is yours . The virus can reactivate and cause recurrent outbreaks, which can be triggered by various factors such as stress, illness, hormonal changes, and sexual activity. So eat well sleep well Practice safe Sex . And try some relaxation techniques like meditation yoga watch a movie just take your mind away from herpes .
