There are many diseases in psychiatry. You had not mentioned the diagnosed condition. Each condition has it's prognosis and course. Each condition has it's different treatment planning also. Better you discuss it in detail to your psychiatrist.
Next Steps
consult a clinical psychologist and psychiatrist.

Hi... It depends on your condition and illness. Medication is typically continued till the time it is absolutely necessary or to prevent a reoccurrence/withdrawal. If your illness is more neurotic, ending medication is relatively more possible but if your illness is psychotic in nature, it may be little more difficult. You will need to consult a Psychiatrist before making any change in your treatment plan, otherwise it may further complicate your recovery/condition. Meanwhile starting therapy/counselling from a Psychologist will help you get back your control over your thoughts and emotions and help you build necessary skills to deal with various challenges in your life.
Next Steps
Consult a Psychiatrist and a Psychologist.
