Fever and loss of sense.
My father is 78, he is suffering from normal pressure hydrocephalus. He couldn't walk and now couldn't eat properly. Doctors suggested that since he is too old, he couldn't opt for surgery. He has been suffering from fever for two days and now has lost sense. Doesn't answer anybody's call. We did see the family doctor, but his fever would go away only for a while. What are the possible treatments for him? Thankyou.

First of all, treat the fever. Get antibiotics and antipyretucs like paracetamol for him. Get a workup, like dengue, typhoid, malaria, cultures etc. He will get a little better. Later, plan a lumbar puncture as a first step for NPH(if that's the diagnosis). This will include draining the fluid bedside. And the improvements in walking is seen after the tap. Then, we plan further treatment.
