Feet tendons
My girlfriends foot muscle seem as if they are always tense, when I feel her foot, the tendons feel hard and to me it seems that they are being pulled even they she isn't pressing or moving them. It seems to cause a secondary problem in that she wakes up in the night with cramps in her calves.

The tightness could be the cause for her cramps. Ask her to take adequate fluids daily, check her calcium levels if still problematic.
