I have a past history of multiple surgeries(6 surgeries including a failed surgery)...Because of failure of previous surgery(done in 2 steps in Nov 2019 and Jan 2020) I had to undergo the same surgery in August 2022(it's a 2 step surgery, next step is yet to be done)
I petrified of surgeries(especially the NG tube)
Due to failure in last surgery,I had to undergo a lot of issues(I had to put finger in vagina and defecate ,bowel frequency was 10 times a day),I'm afraid that this time also the surgery will fail and I'll have to endure a lot of pain
Still,I have to undergo another surgery to complete(it's compulsory)
Can counseling help me to gain mental strength and overcome the fear..Please tell me its urgent

Counselling can help you gain mental strength to overcome the fear of surgery. Yet I would suggest you, at this stage, to deal with your fears (which is quite natural under the circumstances you have explained), through your family physician or a doctor. Fear, they say, is the apprehension of the unknown. The finer details and the long-term benefits of your surgeries and also how you can reduce your discomfort, pain tec., post the surgery, can be explained to you well by any doctor who has time to do that for you. That way the unknown will become known to you and you will have a better ability to overcome the fear. Afterall, remember, you are finally going to be out of your health issues after these surgeries. That silver lining should be able to keep you relatively stress-free. You may consult a psychologist after your surgery, to regain your confidence to move on well in life.
